CSD's research on Experience Corps, an inter-generational tutoring program that places older adults in public schools to help students develop reading skills, has been attracting considerable attention in the past few days. The Boston Globe, The Christian Science Monitor, and The Chronicle of Philanthropy, among other news outlets, have featured stories on the program and related CSD research. The newly released research, which finds that both students and tutors benefit from participating in the program, suggests the important role that service can play in society. While students made significant progress in their reading skills, tutors experienced positive changes in their physical and mental health and their self-esteem. Read more about the research findings in a series of CSD research briefs.
The research on Experience Corps is part of broader CSD research initiatives on older adult service and service across the life course.
