Closing the Wealth Gap: Promoting an Inclusive Asset-Building Policy Agenda

Tuskegee University, the Center for Social Development, and their partners in the Southern Regional Asset-Building Coalition hosted a conference to report on the state of the coalition, highlight policy advocacy work by partners and others in the region, and showcase potential asset-building research and outreach work at historically Black colleges and universities in the South. Conference participants discussed a wide range of issues pertaining to coalition development and strengthening, the basics of advocacy at state and local levels, policy actions for pre- and post-Gulf Coast hurricane  survivors, and resources for asset-building policy work in the current economic crisis. 

State Assets Policy Coalitions: Innovating Asset Building in a Changing Economic Environment

CSD and the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City hosted a national strategy meeting for state asset-building coalitions. Participants discussed a range of issues pertaining to coalition development, strategic planning to address the current economic crisis, and policy issues. Support was provided by the Annie E. Casey Foundation and the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City.

Asset-building Coalitions in States: Innovative Coalition Development and Policy Advocacy Strategies

CSD, CFED, and ISAP hosted the first national meeting of all state assets coalitions. This meeting was designed to encourage effective information-sharing and collaboration between developing and emerging statewide asset-building coalitions. Meeting topics included a range of issues pertaining to coalition development, strategic planning, and policy issues. Funding was provided by the Annie E. Casey Foundation.

The sixth annual state asset-building policy conference served as a high-level meeting of national and regional intermediaries and other key stakeholders in the asset-building field. Discussion focused on universal asset-building systems and strategies for inclusion. Funding was provided by the Annie E. Casey and Charles Stewart Mott Foundations.

The fifth state asset-building policy conference was designed to promote consensus among policy advocates, lawmakers, state administrators, and key stakeholders on the importance of creating strategies and building alliances to support asset building for all people. States and Assets: Building an Inclusive Policy Agenda

The fourth state asset-building policy conference provided new opportunities to examine how states develop and implement IDA and other asset-building policies, as well as opportunities for conference attendees to hear about important new developments and initiatives at the state and federal levels. The event brought over 120 state policymakers, advocates, academics and researchers from more than 35 states, Puerto Rico, and American Samoa. The conference was sponsored by the Annie E. Casey and Charles Stewart Mott Foundations. 

States and Asset Building: Expanding State IDA Policies and Improving Connections to Federal Policies

The third state assets policy conference bolstered state-level support for IDA and asset-building policies by providing state policy leaders with opportunities for capacity building. The 2005 conference also included dialogue concerning how state IDA and asset-building policies correspond with existing and proposed federal policies. The conference was organized by CSD and CFED with support from the Annie E. Casey and Charles Stewart Mott Foundations.

States and IDA Policy: Knowledge-Building, Networking, and Creating New Opportunities

The second state assets policy conference developed and strengthened state-level support for IDAs by creating opportunities for building the capacity and knowledge of key state IDA policy leaders. The conference provided opportunities for in-depth discussions on common IDA policy and program issues. The conference was sponsored by the Annie E. Casey, Ford, and Charles Stewart Mott Foundations.

States and IDAs: Building Support for and Capacity of State Initiatives

CSD and CFED organized the first national state IDA policy and program meeting, which assembled key state leaders who advocate and develop IDA policy and programs. The meeting provided a forum for states to share informational resources as they create and develop new IDA legislation, revise existing legislation, or develop programs. The conference was sponsored by the Annie E. Casey and Ford Foundations.
