In this introduction, guest editors Michael Sharraden, Youngmi Kim, and Vernon Loke discuss the theoretical underpinnings of contributions to the special issue. Many of the articles were originally presented during Child Development Accounts: Research and Policy Symposium, a November 2008 conference hosted in St. Louis, Missouri, by CSD and Washington University, the New America Foundation, and the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. The editors also acknowledge funders and other research partners.
