The Effects of International Volunteering on Community-Based Engagement in Canada

This study examines how international volunteering influences local community engagement after volunteers return home. The study focuses on volunteering behaviors, donating, and activism trends. Survey results provided by 450 returned volunteers were compared with data collected from the most recent Statistics Canada General Social Survey on Giving, Volunteering and Participating, 2013. The results of this analysis highlight important contributions of international volunteers to their local communities upon their return, as well as transformations in their own life paths.
