Wealth inequality is a widely acknowledged barrier to racial equity. It contributes to disparities in opportunity, education, physical health, and mental health. Beginning with the premise that nationwide asset-based policies represent a pathway to addressing racial wealth inequality, this brief centers on Child Development Account policy, summarizing research—including findings from the SEED for Oklahoma Kids experiment—and offering recommendations for reducing the racial wealth gap.
This brief is one of a series published by the Grand Challenges for Social Work initiative to inform policy. The full collection is accessible here.
