The Scope and Nature of Service Learning: A Comparative Study of Urban and Suburban Schools
Community and National Service
Little is known about service-learning opportunities available to urban youth through their public schools or about the differences between these opportunities and those available to suburban youth. We are conducting a comparative study of the scope and nature of service learning in urban and suburban schools and across socio-economic levels. Using the 2004 Growing to Greatness national survey data on 517 urban schools and 725 suburban schools, the study uses comparative and descriptive analysis techniques.
