International Volunteerism in the United States, 2008

By CSD • March 8, 2010November 4, 2021

Over one million individuals reported volunteering internationally in 2008. To understand the characteristics of this group, data were gathered from the September 2004-2009 volunteer supplements to the Current Population Survey (CPS). The volunteer supplement includes questions about service performed domestically and abroad. this report provides a tentative picture of the prevalence of international volunteer service in the US population and the characteristics of those who engage in it.
