In August 2009, international gerontology scholars gathered in China to address the challenge of initiating research and policy innovations that will support older adults in being actively engaged and harness their contributions for the betterment of families, communities, and society. In addition to CSD’s Li Zou, Michael Sherraden, and Nancy Morrow-Howell, 200 scholars from mainland China and approximately 30 from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Japan, Australia, and the United States were in attendance. The conference was the first time that Productive Aging was discussed at a national level in China, indicating the growing importance of the topic as China’s aging population grows. Conference papers will be published in English as a special issue of the China Journal of Social Work and in Chinese as an edited volume by an academic press.
