Date: September 22, 2020, 11:00 a.m.
Location: 11 N. 4th St., St. Louis, Missouri 63102
This March will occur on National Voter Registration Day, Tuesday, September 22,
2020, and begin with a short program at 11:00 am. The starting point for the March
starts on the grassy area on the west side of the Old Courthouse, a national landmark
where the pivotal Dred Scott Trial was held, in downtown St. Louis, at 11 N. 4th St., in
St. Louis, Missouri 63102. After the program, the March will proceed down Market St.
and conclude at the St. Louis City Board of Elections Office.
The day of the March is also the first day voters will be able to cast Absentee Ballots in
the State of Missouri. Both the Democratic and Republican Directors for the Board of
St. Louis are on board with this effort. They’ve agreed to coordinate with us and handle
arrangements for voter registration and absentee voting! We also anticipate having
someone who’ll be able to assist marchers with completion and submission of Census
responses, if needed.
The overarching purposes of this March to the Ballot Box are to focus attention on
the “urgency of now,” including the critical need to register as many voters as
possible before October 7, the voter registration deadline in Missouri; to help voters
understand how to apply for and cast Absentee or Mail-in Ballots; to collectively
mobilize voters to vote on Election Day safely; to recruit poll workers in the St. Louis
area; and to maximize voter participation.
This event is sponsored by the Center for Social Development, St. Louis Area Voting Initiative, and St. Louis Area Voter Protection Coalition.
