Democracy and Civic Engagement International Service Report

The Thread That Binds: Volunteerism and Community Resilience

By CSD • July 24, 2018August 25, 2021

Volunteerism can marshal expertise and resources for meeting community needs in diverse contexts, but volunteers can create challenges for some receiving communities. The Thread That Binds examines the complex interactions between volunteerism and community resilience. It also examines the roles that external actors can play in supporting those interactions. The work of an international team of writers led by Benjamin Lough, CSD Faculty Director in International Service, the report was published by the United Nations Volunteers Programme in the State of the World’s Volunteerism series.
