Financial Independence; Using Wealth and Income Policies to Forge a New Social Contract: Giving People Something to Live For

“Liberty requires … a living that gives man not only enough to live by, but something to live for.”

—President Franklin Roosevelt

In the United States, social, financial, and health challenges have raised questions about what American society owes to individuals and what individuals owe in return. This conference brought together prominent policy experts and researchers to work toward a new social contract, one that guarantees all Americans “enough to live by” but also empowers them to pursue something “to live for.”
