A deficiency of emergency savings is exposing many U.S. households to the risk of disastrous economic, social, psychological, and health consequences. This brief draws on evidence from the Refund to Savings (R2S) initiative to create the best interventions to encourage savings at tax-time among low and moderate- income (LMI) households.
