Many employers encourage their workers to volunteer time and effort in their communities, but what forms of encouragement are most effective? To examine the relationships between corporate efforts and employee participation rates, this study analyzed data from surveys of 166 U.S. firms with revenue of $1 billion or more. The findings indicate that employee motivation is responsive to the efforts of employers and suggest effective paths for engaging workers in corporate social responsibility initiatives.
