This study presents results from a global evaluation of civic service capacity. Through an examination of information from organizational records, publications, and Internet searches, the authors identified 210 civic service programs in 57 countries. These findings motivate a discussion of program objectives and structures as well as insights for subsequent research.
This article and the others in this special issue were initially presented at Toward a Global Research Agenda on Civic Service: An International Conference. Held in 2002 in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the conference was organized and hosted by the Center for Social Development.
