Preparing Social Work Faculty to Teach Financial Capability: Where We Stand

Do social workers receive the training they need to help clients with their financial problems? How can we improve social workers’ competencies to deal with clients’ financial challenges?

This article explores the extent to which financial and economic content are taught in social work courses. While faculty agree on the usefulness of the subject matter, only about 54% indicate that they are teaching the content. Implications and suggestions for research and education are discussed.
