In sub-Saharan Africa, economic shocks have compounded persistent economic challenges, exacerbating vulnerability.
This article, the introduction to a special issue of Global Social Welfare, describes the origins of the Financial Capability and Asset Building in Africa initiative, a broad effort to mitigate financial hardship and vulnerability through scalable, innovative financial capability programs and policies.
